SSL mixbus compressor
from the SSL 4000’s Series mixing desks

This is a copy from the integrated mixbus compressor of a 4044E desk. Jacob Erland (gyraf.dk) made it on a 160x100 eurocard. Many thanks for this, Jacob! ;-)

I used the following parts for this unit:

  • 1 HE Case with 4mm alu frontplate, from benkler electronik (www.robeshop.de) 30€
  • The VU is a behringer, from the vintager series
  • The knobs are like SPL uses for SPL transient designer... or the old black behringer series
  • The dbx VCAs are maybe harder to get, i’d found fortuitously some in my sorting cases... :-) they are labeled THAT 2159 (the same as the THAT2150 but only shipped to special companys)
  • The Led’s are with smoothly surface so that they are at the same level as the frontplate (you can see this at many audio equipment)
  • The letters are made with “SENOR” i scraped them with a pen to the prontplate, then i sprayed clear varnish on it, so you can touch it ;-)

If you want, you can make your own
VU meter. I’d done a copy of a sifam vu meter (AL29) because it looks nice.
(with corel draw) Then i’d printed it on photo paper and cut it. Looks nice ;-) You can
see a behringer VU meter from the vintage series.

 

Note:You can use any 1mA VU-Meter with a standards linear scale. On the pictures above there is a standard VU scale, in this case not correct!  But i’d done a new scale in the Corel Draw Grafic Programm  :-) The original SSL uses SIFAM PPM. If you want to purchase the PPM14 you’ll get the BBC scale from 0-7. For the SSL you’ll need the scale from 0-20.

THE THAT2151/dbx2150 can be found in the SSL 4000 series and Neve V desks. They are used for the console compressors.
