How to create HPGL files with corel draw...

1. Create a logo in corel draw 8 or 9. You can’t import a GIF or JPEG file
and make a hpgl logo directly. You’ll need a vector format. So the best is
to make a logo directly in corel draw. Please use version 8 or 9 because other
versions have problems with exporting HPGL.
(I checked Corel 10 and I had have problems with this version, I read about
the problem in german CNC forums.

Change the view? to contour?, then you’ll only see the contour without fillings.
Then select the Contour button on the left control bar.

2. Choose inside? (middle button).
This is because the line where the driller goes along has to be half of the drill
diameter to the inside.

3. Choose 0,1mm if you’re using a 0,2mm drill (always the half size of the drill)

4. If everything is correct you’ll see a second contour.

5. Choose seperate? break apart? ... to seperate the outer from the inner lines.

6. Now choose the outer line of the logo and delete it. (this is a bit tricky because
the lines are near to each other) Use the magnify tool.

7. Now your logo should look exactly as in the beginning but 0,1mm smaller.
You don’t have to do that but then your logo will be a bit bigger in the end.

8. Choose “to the middle” ?

9.
Select 0,07mm if you want to use a 0,2mm graver.
Select 0,15mm if you want to use a 0,4mm graver.
Select 0,25mm if you want to use a 0,6mm graver.

You have to add as much steps/lines till the logo is completely filled.

10. If you don’t want to fill a line you only have to do the steps 1-7 again.

you have to add the HPGL export filter in the setup.

17. I don’t know why but if you haven’t imported a HPGL file yet... you have to
choose it once again. 0:-)

18. Adjust the colour you like. Click on ok. Your logo should be visible now.

If you feel that the the roundings are more angularly you have to scale the logo to
500% and import it the frontpanel program. After importing you have to scale
down the logo. (20%)

TIP from Schaeffer: If you magnify the logo to the max and don’t see any
not filled areas the engraving should be fine. Good luck! ;-)
